Happy Pongal – 2026

Pongal is a vibrant harvest festival in Tamil Nadu. In this thanks giving ritual the people express their gratitude to the Sun God, nature, farm animals, and agricultural abundance. In this 2026 year, Pongal will be celebrated from January 14 to 17. Each day of pongal is unique with its rituals. On the first day of Bhogi, homes get cleared of unwanted things by lighting bonfires with old belongings. The second day starts with cooking sweet pongal in new clay pots outdoors at the time of sunrise. It is a thanks offering to the Sun God amid chants of “Pongalo Pongal!”. The third day is for farm animal cows. People honor them through baths, garlands, vermilion markings, with special feeds. It is an act of recognizing their farming role. The final day is Kaanum Pongal. Families gather together, picnic by riversides, meet relatives and enjoy the core. “Pongal celebration strengthens community ties and happy family gatherings”
