Muharram – 2026

Muharram is celebrated as one of the four sacred months in Islam dedicated to peace and spiritual practices. The month is also known as a time when Allah readily answers supplications. The start of this month is determined by the sighting of the new moon. During Muharram, Muslim people observe fasting and consider it the best month to fast after Ramadan. They describe it as the most rewarding among voluntary fasts. During this period, they renew faith and set new intentions based on lessons from the past years. And they distance themselves from all kinds of joyous events and mourn for the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. And also they mourn for the massacre at Karbala in 680 CE and honor them in deep devotion. The rewards for charity and good deeds are multiplied is an honor of this month. Observing the sanctity of Muharram is believed to expiate sins.
